Growth approach where established vendors (Autodesk, PTC, Siemens) acquire specialized software companies to expand capabilities, fill product gaps, or strengthen market position.
Why it matters
Acquisitions allow vendors to rapidly add new capabilities (simulation, collaboration, cloud, PLM) rather than building from scratch. Autodesk's acquisition spree (Moldflow, Pixlr, Assemble) shows this pattern.
