A bill of materials generated or augmented by AI tools — either through automated part classification, LLM-assisted specification writing, or AI-driven component substitution recommendations — rather than manually authored by engineers.
Why it matters
AI-assisted BOM generation can compress new product introduction timelines significantly, but introduces data quality and traceability risks that PLM governance processes must address to prevent errors from propagating into manufacturing and procurement.
