Neutral File Format
A file format that is not owned by any single software vendor and can be read by any compliant application — including STEP, IGES, JT, and PDF/A-3 in engineering and PLM contexts.
Why it matters
Neutral formats break vendor lock-in at the data layer, allowing manufacturers to switch tools, onboard suppliers with different CAD environments, and archive product data that will remain readable decades later.
