BIOVIA

BIOVIA is the Dassault Systèmes brand for scientific informatics and life-sciences software, formed from the 2014 acquisition of San Diego-based Accelrys for $750 million. BIOVIA delivers molecular modeling, materials simulation, laboratory data management, and bioscience workflows on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, extending PLM into pharmaceutical R&D, materials innovation, and regulated lab environments.

Why it matters

BIOVIA is the proof-of-concept that PLM's data backbone generalizes beyond mechanical assemblies into molecules and clinical-trial protocols. Its existence is the strategic argument Dassault makes to pharma and materials buyers: the same governance, traceability, and configuration management that work for an aircraft also work for a drug formulation, because the underlying problem is the same.
