Open XML
An XML-based metadata schema used by Aras Innovator to declare data structures, relationships, workflows, and lifecycle processes. Unlike proprietary schemas, Open XML is human-readable, version-controlled, and designed to survive platform upgrades without modification.
Why it matters
Open XML's upgrade-safe property is Aras's technical differentiator. Customizations stored as Open XML metadata can be loaded into new Aras versions without re-validation, making major version upgrades a days-long process rather than a multi-month re-testing cycle.
