Open XML (Aras)
The XML-based metadata schema used by Aras Innovator to declare data structures, BOM relationships, workflows, lifecycle processes, and access controls. Unlike proprietary compiled customization models, Open XML metadata is human-readable, version-controllable, and designed to load into new platform versions without modification.
Why it matters
Open XML is the technical mechanism that makes Aras's upgrade-safe architecture work in practice. By separating customization logic from platform binaries, it allows organizations to maintain heavily customized PLM deployments while staying current on platform versions—a combination that Teamcenter and Windchill cannot offer.
