PTC Creo
PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER) is PTC's parametric CAD platform and the reference implementation for mechanism-heavy design, industrial equipment, and consumer products. Creo pioneered feature-based parametric solid modeling in the 1980s and remains the dominant CAD tool for programs requiring complex kinematic simulations, tolerance analysis (Creo GD&T), and integration with PTC's Windchill PLM and ThingWorx IoT platform.
Why it matters
Creo is the CAD standard for industrial equipment OEMs and many US defense programs. Its Windchill integration is the tightest CAD-PLM connection outside the Siemens stack. Organizations running Creo are typically running Windchill — the CAD and PLM choices are coupled at the data model level.
