Teamcenter
Teamcenter is Siemens Digital Industries Software's enterprise PLM platform, the most widely deployed PLM system in manufacturing. Teamcenter manages product data, BOMs, change processes, configuration control, manufacturing process planning, and supplier collaboration. It evolved from IMAN (the InfoMANager PDM system from EDS Unigraphics) through the UGS-SDRC merger in 2001, the consolidation of Teamcenter Engineering and Teamcenter Enterprise into Teamcenter Unified by 2007, and Siemens' acquisition of UGS the same year.
Why it matters
Teamcenter is the reference implementation of enterprise PLM at scale. It is what every other PLM vendor's largest deployments are benchmarked against, and the specific architectural choices Siemens made — distributed caching, configuration management depth, multi-CAD neutrality, and tight NX integration — define the feature set that automotive and aerospace buyers evaluate every other vendor against.
